JOB SUMMARY:  The Executive Director of Business and Community Education is a key member of the senior leadership team and will report to the College President.  This individual will assist business and industry partners with identifying training and job development resource opportunities at Hawkeye Community College.  In addition, this individual will develop working relationships with area economic development leaders and represent Hawkeye Community College at regional and community economic development meetings.  The Executive Director is responsible for connecting workforce development to the economic development of the region by matching instructional programs to the needs of business.  This includes seeking out partnerships within and outside of the institution for program implementation and enhancement as well as the creation of programs that serve as an incubator for future non-credit/credit programming.  This individual will coordinate and recommend effective marketing of educational programs within the division while overseeing the annual Business and Community Education marketing plan.

Administrative duties include providing effective channels of communication between the administration and Business and Community Education managers to ensure that educational programming is in alignment with the College mission.    In addition, this administrator will advocate for and ensure resources for program development through the creation of an atmosphere of innovation and risk-taking among Business and Community Education staff.  The Executive Director will analyze and evaluate financial performance, budget management, program quality, new program development, and customer service performance for the division.  Fiduciary responsibilities include ensuring the financial stability of the division through the development and monitoring of budget expenditures while directing the division to be self-supporting.  Appropriate grant opportunities for programs and facilities within the division are to be pursued by the Executive Director.

Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing and evaluating the instruction of all programs and courses within the division, while supporting Business and Community Education instructor development.  This individual will evaluate supervisory staff within the division, making recommendations for retention and promotion while providing support for staff development activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Master’s degree in Business, Industrial Relations, Higher Education, Continuing Education, or related field.  Four (4) years progressively responsible experience in the development and delivery of private industry training, continuing education programming, and/or economic development initiatives.  Working knowledge of budget development and fiscal monitoring.  Working knowledge of personal computer and related software.  Working knowledge of policy and contract administration and development.  Demonstrated ability in planning and administration.  Demonstrated ability in problem solving.  Knowledge of business and industry operations.  Demonstrated organizational skills.  Ability to handle multiple tasks.  Proven ability to supervise staff.  Demonstrated skill in professional report writing.  Ability to work with diverse groups, business representatives, faculty, staff and the general public.  Ability to travel to and from appointments.  Working knowledge and experience in developing contracts and grants within the parameters of the Code of Iowa.  Preferences include economic development leadership experience, entrepreneurial programming, and business-start-up experience.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time position opening with a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; holiday, personal, sick, and vacation leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution).  Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience with an anticipated starting salary between $90,000 and $141,784.
