Associate Vice President of Institutional Research, Assessment, Accreditation, and Planning
Distinguishing Features of The Class: The work involves directing the coordination of the institutional research and assessment offices under the supervision of the President or designee. The AVPIRAAP is the individual responsible for all reporting requirements including but not limited to SUNY, IPEDS and other state and federal agencies and is responsible for submission of State and/or Federal information reporting by the College. The AVPIRAAP aligns institutional and student performance data with program, department, and activity outcomes to identify relationships that facilitate improvement and strategic decision-making. The AVPIRAAP assists the President and Chief Administrative and Financial Officer in the formulation of the college budget based upon institutional priorities and assessment. The AVPIRAAP collects and provides data for collective bargaining and union/labor management to the Executive Vice President for Legal Affairs. The AVPIRAAP supervises the Director of Research and Director of Assessment & Accreditation and support personnel. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of information management and institutional research to support college planning, assessment, and improvement activities at the college level; thorough knowledge of administrative and educational procedures and practices in the college setting; ability to coordinate and direct the offices of institutional research and assessment for compliance with federal, state, and accreditation regulations; provide leadership in continuous improvement of an institution-wide assessment program directed toward improving student achievement of learning outcomes and goals; ability to supervise effectively; knowledge of analytical analysis and techniques using business objects that is appropriate to educational research, including higher education administration, social sciences, research/statistics, or business; awareness of current trends and directions in assessment; familiarity with the policies and practices of assessment of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; ability to motivate and work effectively with students and staff; ability to work effectively with various groups and individuals of diverse background and interest; ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and good judgment; good knowledge of public and community relations; initiative and resourcefulness; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in a related field plus five (5) years of experience in higher education institutional research, assessment, planning, and budget preparation which must have included supervision over lower level employees and/or departments. Prior experience with labor relations preferred. Thorough knowledge of computer and software systems and data warehouse as well as report and dashboard development.
