Job Description

Rend Lake College offers an exciting chief administrative position for the right candidate. The President is responsible for the total college program and provides overall leadership and unity of efforts, and also acts as a liaison between the Board of Trustees and the employees of Rend Lake College.   • Academic credentials appropriate for leading a college – a doctorate is preferred
  • Leadership experience at a senior level in a complex organization – preferably with experience in or comprehensive understanding of community colleges
  • A record of accomplishment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with entrepreneurial and innovative projects
  • Experience in working with the accreditation process
  • Experience with postsecondary teaching is desirable
  • Experience with managing tight budgets
  • Experience with collective bargaining
  • Experience with a governing board
  • Experience in supporting students, student activities, and athletics
  • Ability to earn the respect and support of the Board, the faculty, staff, students, and the community
  • Willingness to maintain high visibility on campus and in the community

  • Of high integrity, sets high personal standards, expects full accountability and has demonstrated ethical, fair and honest leadership
  • Demonstrates ability to use collaborative leadership skills to build and implement effective plans that include actively supporting the development of partnerships between the college, business and industry, cultural entities, and civic organizations throughout the service area
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively oversee the management of fiscal affairs, ensure the equitable and effective allocation of resources, and expand the resource base of the district by obtaining additional funding for the college through alternative means
  • An innovative and creative leader committed to excellence and student success, possessing the ability to inspire and motivate faculty and staff to fulfill their responsibility to the maximum extent while providing high quality and accessible programs and services to students
  • An articulate spokesperson for the college locally, statewide and nationally, as well as being politically astute with proven advocacy skills and a solid understanding of local, state, and national legislative processes and issues
