Dr. Godwin Ariguzo is the Project Director of the Bristol Information Technology School, and formerly the Assistant Dean for Business and Information Management Division and Assistant Professor of Business Administration at Bristol Community College in Fall River, Massachusetts. He is currently a lecturer in the Marketing Department and the Special Assistant to the Dean of Charlton College of Business for Grants and Curriculum Development at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He earned his doctorate from the University of Massachusetts Boston, his M.B.A. and B.B.A. from Marshall University in West Virginia. Prior to joining UMASS Dartmouth in September 2002, Dr. Ariguzo served BCC for fifteen years where he oversaw four programs of study: Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Office Administration, Cooperative Education, and seven academic computer labs equipped with over 207 Pentium computers.
He was responsible for writing and implementing the Carl Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Grant funded for approximately $300,000 annually. He wrote and successfully obtained the prestigious AACC/Microsoft© Working Connections Grant, funded for $250,000 over three years to help develop computer-training programs for disadvantaged students. He participated in either authoring or helping to administer other grants at Bristol.
Dr. Ariguzo is recognized nationally for leading innovative programs. He coordinated the introduction of the Computer Networking and Multimedia programs in the Computer Information Systems Department at Bristol. He led the effort to internationalize the Business Administration program under a Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education. He initiated and coordinated the development of the Aquabusiness, Entrepreneurship, Tourism & Guest Services, and Service Learning programs at Bristol. Dr. Ariguzo is an entrepreneur who has operated many business ventures of his own. He has taught a variety of business administration courses, including Small Business Management, Accounting Principles, Principles of Management and Marketing, Promotional Strategy, Consumer Behavior, and Sales Management.
He is a leader in the areas of business and technology education, college work-study programs, international business, and team building. He has made numerous presentations on these subjects at national and regional conferences. Mr. Ariguzo is a reviewer for Prentice Hall and Houghton Mifflin publishers, and has consulted for a number of regional, national, and international companies. He was recognized by Students in Free Enterprise, Inc., as a Samuel M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow in April 1994. He is a subject of biographical record in Who's Who in Finance and Industry and Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. He was honored with the Sceptre and Scroll Society (Highest) Award at Bristol Community College in 1990.
Susan Chin is the CIS Coordinator (Department Chair) at the College of Alameda (COA) in Alameda, California. She earned her MBA from National University (main campus: San Diego, CA) and her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.
She was the Project Coordinator for the AACC/Microsoft Working Connections Mentee College Grant, 1998-2000 and is the Project Coordinator for College of Alameda’s AACC/Microsoft Working Connections Mentor College Grant, 2001-2004. She is College of Alameda’s faculty leader for the following: 1) WomenTech Project, part of IWITTS (Institute for Women in Trades, Technology and Science); COA is one of 3 colleges nationwide selected for this project, 2) MentorNet, an e-mentoring program based at San Jose State University, 3) Cisco Networking Academy, 4) SUN Academic Initiative, and 5) FIPSE’s Learning Anywhere Anytime Program (LAAP), an e-learning network grant administered by Arizona State University; COA is one of ten national test sites.
She is the faculty and curriculum coordinator for the A+ preparation program (started in spring 2002) and the networking basics program (fall 2002) at the Cypress-Mandela Technology Training Center in West Oakland. This program is a collaboration of the following community based organizations: BayTEC (Bay Area Technology Education Collaborative), Urban Voice, and Peralta Colleges (Peter Crabtree: main contact person). This collaboration will be expanded to the Eastmont Computing Center in East Oakland with the fundamentals of IT program (fall 2002).
Norman Fujimoto is the Instructional Dean of Science, Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer and Information Sciences Divison. He has earned his M.A.T. in Chemistry from Andrews University and his B.A. in Chemistry from Loma Linda University. For the last eight years, he has overseen the following departments: biology, chemistry, computer and information sciences, earth sciences, mathematics, and physics and astronomy. He has also served as the interim dean of the business division for one year.
In his tenure at Cerritos Community College, he has been involved in several grants as the principle investigator or as one of the participants. AACC/Microsoft Working Connections Grant, Chancellor’s Office Pipeline Grant, Tech Prep, and NSF are some of the many grants that have been successfully written and funded with his leadership for the SEM Division.
On campus, he has been one of the leaders pushing the technology agenda. He has helped the college to set up minimum standards for technology hardware on campus. The campus has progressed technologically due to his leadership. Several presentations have been made at major conferences throughout the country at both regional and national conferences on technology.
Other administrators have recognized him as a leader. He is presently the president of the management association on campus. The faculty also are pleased that he takes time to teach in the area of chemistry. Students and staff value him for the time he is willing to spend with them. On the Cerritos Community College Campus, students, staff, faculty, and administration are thankful to have his leadership.
OSCAR M. LOPEZ
Oscar is the Associate Dean of Student Support Services at Richland College, Dallas, Texas. He received his undergraduate degree in English/Speech Communications/ Secondary Education from the University of Texas at Austin and his Master's Degree in Psychology and Sociology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.
At Richland, currently supervises the Admissions/Student Records Office, the Disability Services programs, and serves as the college ADA Coordinator. His responsibilities include overseeing the enrollment records of 14,000 credit students, public relations and marketing, staff development and training, oversight of the college's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, public speaking and outreach. He has been a public speaker and trainer on the local, state, and national level.
At Richland, Oscar was instrumental in developing the only community college adaptive physical education program for students with disabilities in the state of Texas. He also developed an institutional disability awareness training program for faculty and staff that is now a required component in the college staff development programs. As an adjunct faculty member at the college, he developed the curriculum and teaches an adaptive Introduction to Computers class for students with disabilities.
Oscar previously taught middle school English and Journalism in Austin, where his student publications were honored at the state and national level for journalism excellence. He directed a high school/community college summer program for job placement, vocational training, and remedial education for students with learning differences. He also served as the director of a non-profit outdoor education center/summer camping program that catered to children with disabilities.
In 1996, Oscar was chosen as one of four mentors in a national competition for an AACC project to improve disability support services in community colleges, in which he contributed to the development of the AACC mentoring guidelines. In 1997, Oscar was asked by AACC to serve on the mentor team for the Working Connections Project where he mentors four community colleges across the country.
In 1988, he was chosen as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America. In 1997, Oscar was honored with the Richland College Student Development Leadership Award, and then went on to receive the same honor from the Dallas County Community College District.
Oscar is active in community affairs. He is a 1996 graduate of Leadership Richardson and from 1998 till 2001 served as leadership advisor for the Leadership Richardson Program. He also serves as Richland’s liaison to the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He serves on the Board of Directors for the New Beginning Center, a non-profit organization that provides services for victims of domestic violence.
Gina Mounfield, Vice President for Career Programs at Midlands Technical College in Columbia, South Carolina has been involved for more than 24 years in education. She has been at MTC for nine years teaching information technology, serving as department chair and most recently working with all career programs at the college. She served as project director for the AACC/Microsoft Working Connections Grant at MTC. Her work on the AACC/Microsoft grant led her to apply for an NST/ATE Mentor grant where she worked with Chaffey Community College in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Gina has a B.S. in mathematics from Berry College, Rome, GA. a MAEd in mathematics education and graduate work in computer science from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Leadership from University of South Carolina, Columbia SC. She has taught at University of Florida, Gainesville and Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. She most enjoys curriculum development and providing opportunities for students to experience new technologies.
As Director of Instructional Technology at Frederick Community College since August 1998, Mr. Ramirez is responsible for the cooperative planning and development of instructional technology programs and practices for faculty. He supports faculty in the development of online courses, application of emerging technologies to learning practices across the curriculum, and distance learning. He is Project Director for the Hi-Tech Career Academy, an academic program for workforce development serving disadvantaged populations, part of the AACC/Microsoft Working Connections network. Mr. Ramirez currently teaches Computer and Information Technologies, and conducts faculty development workshops on inquiry-based learning, distance education, and technology.
Mr. Ramirez worked as an Analyst and Developer in the SAP/ERP software Training and Performance Group at RWD Technologies. He specialized in training, and documentation development, and applied his experience in educational technology, interactive learning, and database management applications.
As a Director of Public Programs for the Columbus Center Development Corporation, Mr. Ramirez planned, designed and implemented public programs in marine biotechnology, including the delivery of information to visitors through advanced multimedia and interactive applications, as well as hands-on laboratory learning experiences. He recruited and trained scientific and technical staff, and developed the distance learning capabilities and public education programs for this center.
Mr. Ramirez was responsible for the design, planning and supervision of youth programs and related activities at the Museum of Science in Miami, Florida. He designed and implemented after school, weekend and summer programs serving urban minority and female youth to provide them with scientific education, computer, technology, study, and communications skills. These included UNITY (Unisys Technology Youth), a web development and dissemination program for minority youth funded by the Unisys Corporation; MUST (Microcomputer Using Science Teams), a Marine science and computer technology enrichment camp funded by the National Science Foundation; MUST+, part of the YouthALIVE! National initiative supported by the Association of Science Technology Centers and the DeWitt Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund.
He developed and conducted innovative Summer Science and Technology Teacher In-service Institutes that included Intensive field-based marine science and educational technology training for middle and high school teachers in the Miami-Dade and Monroe school districts. Mr. Ramirez is currently President of the College of the Air Distance Education Consortium (COADEC), an organization in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Washington, DC.
