International Meetings and Events
AACC Trip to China: October 17-25, 2008 -- AACC's trip to China in October will be led by President George Boggs and Judy Irwin, Director of International Programs and Services. AACC did a similar trip last summer with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). That trip was very successful leading to many follow-up activities. The Chinese are very interested in the community college model and they will be very welcoming hosts for our group. The Fall 2008 trip is designed to promote understanding and encourage partnerships between AACC member colleges and Chinese Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) institutions. AACC recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CEAIE (a non-governmental organization in China, affiliated with the Ministry of Education, representing more than 1,000 vocational and technical institutions) to enable our institutions to work together on a variety of joint initiatives. Click here to read a recent Community College Times article about the Memorandum. The trip is open to AACC presidents and senior administrators (i.e., provosts, vice presidents, deans) and will begin with a conference in Beijing from Friday, October 17 through Monday, October 20 (requiring an Oct. 15 departure from the U.S.). The meetings in Beijing will be designed to promote understanding, explore higher education challenges in the U.S. and China, and develop mutually beneficial programs and partnerships. The optional post-Beijing trip will be arranged to visit potential partner vocational and technical institutions from October 21-25, 2008. AACC members will have an opportunity to travel outside of Beijing and visit CEAIE institutions and expand their knowledge of Chinese history and culture. Participants can attend the Beijing conference only, or both the conference and the optional post-Beijing trip. Click on the link below for costs and a detailed itinerary of the trip. We encourage you to register by completing the Registration and Hotel Reservation Forms available below and sending via fax to 202-833-2467 by August 20.
