Teaching Scholar Partnerships With support from the National Science Foundation, AACC, in partnership with the Council for Independent Colleges (CIC) and the Independent Colleges Office (ICO), developed the Teaching Scholar Partnerships (TSP) project. TSP is a collaborative program that brings together two- and four-year institutions seeking solutions to the shortage of qualified science and math educators at the elementary, middle and secondary school levels. Ten community colleges and 18 four-year colleges and universities were selected in grant competitions to participate in the Teaching Scholar Partnerships pilot program. TSP Colleges received up to $30,000 over two years to implement programs that place undergraduates in mathematics, science, engineering and technology in K-12 classrooms as content resources. During the two-year initiative, over 220 undergraduate students served as Teaching Scholars in more than 300 classrooms in 94 K-12 schools across the country. A total of 121 college and university faculty served as college mentors to the Teaching Scholars. Multi-layered mentoring enriched the project. College faculty and K-12 classroom teachers alike mentored the college students, and in many ways the college students provided role models and mentoring for K-12 pupils. In addition, the national organizations provided current and former faculty members and administrators as mentors and advisors to the 28 colleges and universities. The 28 TSP Teams had the opportunity to learn from each other and share their experiences through annual TSP conferences and the TSP listserv.
