Curriculum Tools Reflection Critical reflection is the key to connecting course content with practical service experience. Refer to the sections below for more information. Assessment If you are looking for instruments to evaluate or assess progress in service learning, you may want to review and/or modify four instruments that AACC grantee colleges have used successfully. Civic Responsibility A Practical Guide for Integrating Civic Responsibility into the Curriculum (Adobe PDF) - a 97-page book that provides practical, easy-to-use applications for community college faculty to integrate civic responsibility concepts and practices into their courses; includes more than 40 different exercises, activities, and assessment tools. Syllabi Service learning components and expectations should be featured in course syllabi or related outlines and handouts. The syllabi linked below offer a variety of examples. More will be posted in the coming months. AACC collects community college syllabi for its Service Learning Clearinghouse to assist faculty across the country in service learning course development. If your syllabus includes service learning and you are willing to share it, please e-mail it to Gail Robinson, AACC Coordinator of Service Learning, at grobinson@aacc.nche.edu. A new publication from Campus Compact, "Service-Learning Course Design for Community Colleges," includes sample course descriptions, detailed models, syllabi, and ready-to-use tools.
