By the People: America in the World

** Latest News:  Community College Grant Awards **

A new initiative of MacNeil/Lehrer Productions, aims to energize and enhance the national conversation on America's role in the world through a series of national and local broadcasts and events that demonstrate the relevance of foreign policy issues to local concerns.  The project includes three national PBS specials, two cycles of local programming to be produced by PBS stations in cooperation with community organizations, national and local forums for civic dialogue, and an interactive web site, www.by-the-people.org.

The By the People (BTP) project is soliciting proposals that detail campus projects and activities scheduled for summer and fall of 2004 that relate to the topic. BTP will provide grants of up to $2,500 to conduct local dialogues and events.  In addition, BTP will make available tools and resources to facilitate local events; see www.by-the-people.org. Suggested projects include discussion forums, workshops, teach-ins, panel and book discussions, film screening, and service learning activities.

Grants are available for activities conducted through Dec. 31. Deadline for applications is May 7 for Round I and July 16 for Round II.
