Participating in America’s Promise

Join America’s Promise and let your community and the nation know that community colleges are committed to strengthening their communities.

To join America’s Promise, submit a "Commitment" proposal to America’s Promise. The proposal should outline the college’s plans to provide young people access to one or more of the five fundamental resources.

The three levels of "Commitment" available to community colleges are College of Promise, Commitment Maker, and Community of Promise Partner. AACC strongly encourages its member colleges to join America’s Promise in one of these capacities.

College of Promise
A College of Promise provides all five fundamental resources at community sites such as local schools, non-profit organizations and/or government agencies. A College of Promise aligns existing activities and programs with new programs or partners to reach out to local young people.

Commitment Maker
A Commitment Maker fulfills a specific community need by providing at least one of the five fundamental resources to local young people. The Commitment Maker’s activity must comprise a new initiative or expand an existing program and yield a quantifiable outcome that can be tracked and reported; or

Community of Promise Partner
A Community of Promise is a partnership among local community members that assess the needs of the local young people. It will provide resources to fulfill the local needs, convene a summit or similar event, assign measurable goals to deliver the resources and secure local commitments to achieve the goals. A community college may join a Community of Promise as a partner or initiate a Community of Promise where one does not exist.

Commitment Proposal
Your commitment will include an implementation plan, a timetable, and an estimate of how many young people your efforts will reach. The commitment form and detailed information on submitting a commitment are available on the America’s Promise web site (www.americaspromise.org) or you may call America’s Promise at 703/535-3848 to receive a packet of information on America’s Promise and information specific to college involvement.
