AACC Opening Session Date: Saturday, April 5 Amy Tan, the acclaimed best-selling author of The Joy Luck Club, will give the keynote address for the opening session of the convention. Born in the U.S. to immigrant parents from China, Amy Tan rejected her mother's expectations that she become a doctor and concert pianist. She chose to write fiction instead. Her novels are The Joy Luck Club, The Kitchen God's Wife, The Hundred Secret Senses, The Bonesetter's Daughter, and Saving Fish from Drowning, all New York Times bestsellers. Brunch Date: Tuesday, April 8 A world figure and widow of the late Egyptian president, Anwar Sadat, Jehan Sadat has been active in the women's movement both in her country and in the world. Mrs. Sadat, first lady of Egypt from 1970–1981, was the first wife of a Muslim leader to have her picture in the newspaper, to travel outside her country, and to take up public causes. She has devoted her life to public service and maintaining the legacy of her late husband.
