About Community Colleges

Researchers

The American Association of Community Colleges provides a wealth of data and information that will assist you in your research. Most notably, AACC publishes a compendium called National Profile of Community Colleges: Trends & Statistics, which offers a comprehensive view of community colleges from a national perspective.

AACC conducts some original research, but a large portion of the data cited in the National Profile comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, U.S. Department of Education. AACC encourages you to visit the NCES Web site, an invaluable resource for academic researchers. Other helpful Web sites include: U.S. Bureau of the Census and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor.

Another resource for researchers is the ERIC Clearinghouse for Community Colleges. There you can search the ERIC Database for journal articles and documents, ask questions and submit documents.

If you are seeking state-specific information on community colleges and economic trends, order the State-by-State Profile of Community Colleges, also available from the Community College Press. The annual provides up-to-date narrative and statistics from each state.

Professional Development

Another excellent resource for community college institutional researchers is the National Community College Council for Research and Planning, an affiliate council of AACC. NCRP is a national organization that exists exclusively to serve institutional research and planning professionals in two-year, postsecondary educational institutions and other persons with a special interest in community college research. Link to the NCCCRP Web site to learn more.
