Business and IndustryNow more than ever workers are faced with the need to acquire the level and range of skills which will prepare them to meet and overcome the challenge of global competition. If workers are to remain competitive, lifelong learning must be the norm for the post-industrial workforce. In this new, more competitive age, America's community colleges have emerged as vanguard institutions in preparing workers and their companies for the challenges ahead. The community college's central role in workforce development reflects the accessibility to community colleges to virtually all Americans; the diversity of workforce programs and services offered by community colleges; and the positive experiences of employers in working with community colleges in securing workforce development services. Three affiliated councils of AACC conducted The National Workforce Development Study in 1997 to better understand the current state of the community college's role in workforce development. More than 2,400 employers responded to the questionnaire. Follow this link to read about the findings of the study.
