David R. Pierce Faculty Technology Award 2005
Sponsored by AACC and Cisco Systems, Inc.

Cisco is partnering with AACC to recognize faculty excellence in the use of IT for instruction. The David R. Pierce Faculty Technology Award will be given to two outstanding community college faculty who promote the use of information technology in education. Complete details about nominating a faculty member are provided below. 

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for nomination, faculty members should:

  • Be currently employed       
  • Demonstrate consistent and exemplary use of technology in instruction      
  • Be either a part-time or full-time faculty member in good standing.

The Award:

  • Faculty selected receive a non-restricted, $5,000 honorarium.             
  • The two winners will be recognized at the AACC Annual Convention in April and will be featured in AACC publications.

Nomination Process:

Each AACC member institution may nominate one faculty member. The nomination should include:

  • One completed nomination form (Adobe PDF)      
  • One performance narrative by the CEO (no more than two pages) that provides specific examples of the nominee’s outstanding qualities and accomplishments, including:
    • Innovative use of technology in the nominee’s discipline.  
    • Leadership, through mentoring and example, in technology use.  
    • Inspiring students to enter and excel in a technology field.  
    • Increasing access to technology and related skills among underserved populations.
  • One page single-spaced essay from a student of the nominee that details how the faculty member encouraged the student to enter into an IT field or to persevere and excel in their chosen field.

Nominations MUST be submitted electronically to pierceaward@aacc.nche.edu.  All submissions must be in ACROBAT PDF format on college letterhead and include the CEO’s electronic signature.
