Thank Congress for Pell Grant Funds

Sample Letter from a College President

As the president of <<Community College Name>>, I am writing to you today to urge your support for critical funding for the Pell Grant program. Last year <<number of Pell recipients at the college>> students attending the college relied on Pell grants to help pay for tuition, books, and other college expenses. Yet, despite increases in enrollments and students in need of assistance, recent proposals threaten to make deep cuts to the Pell Grant program and reduce awards to the millions of Americans who depend on Pell grants to enroll annually.

Pell grants not only help low-income and first-generation students to access postsecondary education and training; they enable them to complete degrees and certificates.

Cutting the maximum Pell grant award would have a devastating impact on our students and would hamper the nation’s ability to produce the well-educated, highly trained workforce it requires to remain globally competitive. I ask for your help in preserving the Pell grant maximum at $5,550.
