Quote from the President

"Health science, criminal justice, and radio/television programs at Alvin Community College (ACC) draw students from over thirteen counties in the Texas Gulf Coast. Students completing their core curriculum and transferring to a university receive their baccalaureate degree much sooner than students starting at that university. The College Foundation funded a live performance studio for the communications program that offers both classroom and laboratory training to students and community events featuring nationally recognized performers."

Interesting Facts

  • Alvin Community College has twice been named among the top 10% of community colleges in the nation by the Aspen Institute. The college was selected based on student success in retention and completion, performance improvement over time, and performance of underrepresented minorities and institutions in low-income service areas.
  • ACC developed the first advanced technical certificate for polysomnography training (a type of sleep study) in Texas in 2005 and introduced an associate of applied science degree in polysomnography in 2006. As a result, ACC became the first community college in the Houston area, and the second in the state, to offer an associate degree in this field. It is one of only 15 such programs in the United States.
  • The college is home to a highly-respected nursing program. Since 2002, graduates from ACC’s registered nursing program have earned a first-time pass rate of over 95% each year and 100% in 2003, 2006, and 2012. Licensed vocational nursing students have also maintained a 93-97% pass rate for the past several years and earned a 100% pass rate in 2006 and 2012.
  • ACC is home to KACC 89.7 FM, which is one of the few community college radio stations in Texas, and the only such station in the Houston area. KACC airs classic and new rock as well as providing a venue for local artists.
