Quote from the President
“In 2015, Cleveland State implemented the Community First Plan - our 5-year strategic plan to ensure that our institution is operating from a position of strength as we serve learners, businesses and all community partners. "Community First" has become much more than a tagline. It has infused everything we do, and it has become common language on our campus and in our community. We have served this community for 50 years, but now our regional appreciation for that service has never been stronger.” --Dr. Bill Seymour, CSCC President
- Cleveland State is one of 30 colleges in the United States and the only one in Tennessee chosen for the Pathways Project led by the American Association of Community Colleges. The Pathways Project will allow CSCC to provide guided pathways for students that promote success and completion.
- Cleveland State has been recognized nationally for its service-learning program. Implemented in 2008, the program has increased significantly to include nine stand alone Service-Learning Experience classes, a service-learning component in the new First Year Experience classes and over 60 percent of the faculty has incorporated service-learning into classes across campus. CSCC was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the fourth time last year.
- Cleveland State is known for innovation in math education earning the prestigious Bellwether award in 2009 which received national recognition. CSCC won in the Instructional Programs and Services category, which recognizes programs and services that foster or support teaching and learning in the community college. Among the national recognition received for the program, President Obama mentioned CSCC in a speech given at the University of Texas at Austin in 2010.
- Cleveland State has a motto of “Community First” and presents annual Community First Awards to deserving individuals throughout its service area.
