 Joe Schaffer 

POSITION SINCE:  Since 2012, Dr. Joe Schaffer has served as the President of Laramie County Community College (also known as L-Triple C), Wyoming’s largest community college. LCCC, is an aggressively innovative, comprehensive college with a main campus located in the state capital of Cheyenne, a branch campus in Laramie and two other outreach sites.

PREVIOUS:  Prior to joining LCCC, Joe spent nearly a decade at Great Falls College - Montana State University, serving in a variety of academic and administrative roles including Director of Outreach, Assistant Dean of Outreach and Workforce Development, and Chief Academic Officer.  At the age of 34, he was appointed the campus’ Chief Executive Officer, making him one of the youngest college CEOs in the nation at the time.

AFFILIATIONS:  Joe is active both locally and nationally.  He has served on the AACC’s Commission on Research, Technology and Emerging Trends, and currently serves on the executive committee of AACC’s Presidents Academy.  He also serves on the executive committee of the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education’s Alliance of Community College Academic Leaders, as well as serving and holding leadership positions on the boards of various community and business organizations.

EDUCATION:  Joe received his Associates of Arts degree from Bemidji State University, a Bachelor of Science from The University of Montana, his Masters of Science in Technical Communication from Montana Tech, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from The University of Montana’s College of Education and Human Sciences.

OTHER:  Prior to entering higher education, Joe worked in non-profit, municipal, and private industry, including owning and operating a successful Internet consulting and website design firm. Joe lectures, presents, and writes on a variety of topics, but his passion is learning and sharing about surviving change, leadership and leadership development, and educational policy.
