 Merrill Irving, Jr. 

POSITION: Since 2015 President of Hennepin Technical College (HTC), the largest technical college in Minnesota with a 98% job placement rate.  HTC is a public institution with two campuses in greater Minneapolis.

PREVIOUS: Served as associate vice president of continuing education, training and workforce development at Oakton Community College; chairperson for continuing education and professional development at Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus; and the biosciences program director at Miami Dade College.

AFFILIATIONS: Serves on boards: American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) President’s Academy Executive Committee; AACC Commission on Academic, Student and Community Development; Minnesota State Leadership Council; Chair of the Metro Alliance Presidents Council; Minnesota Governor's Workforce Development Board; Hennepin County Workforce Leadership Council; Young Women’s Initiative Council; and Brooklyn Bridge Alliance for Youth Board. Member of: National Council for Workforce Education (NCWE); and National Council on Black American Affairs (NCBAA).  Previously served on: AACC Commission on Economic and Workforce Development.

EDUCATION: Ed.D., Education Psychology, University of Southern California; Master of Public Administration, West Virginia University; and Bachelor of Arts, Political Science and History, West Virginia University.

OTHER: Presentations: local and national presentations on career and technical education, creating pathways from college to career, higher education excellence and access, and related topics.  Awards: League for Innovation’s Innovation of the Year Award in Biotechnology; Millennium Momentum Foundation Inc.’s Best and Brightest Fellow USC; and the Judith Herndon Fellow to West Virginia House of Delegates.
