CEO Search Update
June 21, 2010
Following a six-month national search, it is my pleasure and honor, on behalf of the AACC board, to announce to you that Dr. Walter Bumphus has been selected to be the new President/CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).
Dr. Bumphus has a wealth of knowledge about community colleges. He brings excellent experience as a college president, state system leader and professor to the position. Recognized as a leader in the community college movement, he is exactly the right person at the right time to build on the fine work of George Boggs and take our association to new heights. He has the passion, commitment, intellect and energy to lead our organization. I am confident that he will capture this moment and lead us to do the work that needs to be done for our country.
I am thrilled that Walter will be joining us on January 1, 2011. In the meantime, I know that Dr. Boggs looks forward to working with all of you to continue his exemplary work as our president until the end of the year. When the time comes, I trust you will welcome Dr. Bumphus and give him great support as he works on our behalf.
These are exciting times for community colleges and for our association. The board looks forward to continuing our work with you, our members, to serve the hundreds of colleges and millions of students across the country.
