“The example of professionalism and competence that Dr. Hetherington sets has inspired so many to examine their careers and grow as leaders in serving students.”
Acting Dean, HCC
Individuals who have the opportunity to expand their knowledge are more effective in their work, and are strong role models for students. That’s the belief of Kathleen Hetherington, president of Howard Community College (HCC).
Hetherington has been the college’s president since 2007, and has worked at HCC since 1999. In her time at HCC, “she has emerged as a champion for professional leadership,” said HCC Board Chair Kevin J. Doyle.
Hetherington makes available several in-house professional development opportunities for faculty and staff. The EXCEL Forum is available to all staff. It enhances each participant’s ability to effectively lead, motivate, and inspire others. Leading Edge further builds the skills of supervisors. The Professional Learning Community for Leadership is an advanced version of the EXCEL Forum.
